The object for the Educational Department is to realize the municipality's duties within the public and voluntary school system for children and young people as well as social care for children.
This activity includes family day care homes, pre-school, pre-school class, out of school hours provision, compulsory school, compulsory school for mentally handicapped and culture school.

The Educational Department has a functional, decentralized activity and organization that covers 11 independent units of which two have local boards with parent majority; Bredsättra/Gärdslösa and Runsten.

Responsible body is the Education Board.
